EMERGENCY RESPONSE
4WARDSTEPS is our organization's emergency-response initiative, delivering mental health & wellness care to people affected by major humanitarian crises such as:
- natural disasters or other tragedies
- epidemics of homelessness & addiction
- deadly global pandemics
Following a disaster or epidemic, our teams secure pro-bono and paid commitments from medical practitioners and wellness professionals licensed to practice in the affected community.
Our teams simultaneously engage affected people and connect them with these professionals. Through our organization, patients can access a wide range of treatments, therapies, and assistance:
HOW WE CAN HELP
Counseling & Coaching
Individual or group sessions for:
- grief counseling,
- substance abuse counseling,
- child & teen counseling,
- task assistance with a social worker e.g. insurance claims, FEMA paperwork,
- other emergency need.
Therapy & Psychiatric Care
Working with licensed doctors and therapists for mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addiction.
Addiction treatments such as MAT are powerful tools to combat relapse induced by loss or trauma following a disaster or other crisis.
Family & Group Therapy
Supplemental Medical Care
We facilitate licensed providers to assist with prescription refills, pharmacy outreach, health insurance issues, and direct patients to publicly-available copay assistance programs.
Uninterupted primary care and medication management is essential for the wellbeing of people in crisis — precisely when people find this most challenging.
Healing Workshops (Los Angeles area)
We host holistic mind-body healing workshops that involve somatic therapy, which uses body awareness, breathwork and movement to release trauma stored in the body. It is an effective treatment option for PTSD, anxiety, depression and chronic pain, with significant potential to improve the mental health of impacted communities in real time.
WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT
Mental healthcare is often most challenging to access precisely when it's needed most. This "catch-22" problem arises because:
- People in crisis are frequently overwhelmed with some combination of logistical, financial, and emotional stress;
- Care providers in crisis areas are often in high-demand, physically inaccessible, and can be affected themselves;
- Emergency responses prioritize immediate material and physical needs. Mental health & wellness needs receive less attention, especially long-term needs.
ANEA seeks to overcome this "catch-22" with proactive outreach to people in need, providing hands-on care coordination and special attention to the most vulnerable populations such as children, elderly, caretakers and first responders.
